The Florida Keys Commercial Fishermen's Association and Monroe County Extension Services will host the first Seafood Festival at Bayview Park from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

This is a way to support the local commercial fishing community who took a hard hit during the 2005 Hurricane season.

I have to admit being a little jaded by fish - I grew up down here in Key West and my father ran a charter boat. We ate fish every other night of the week for 20 years. I have to admit no one has ever been able to cook fish as well as my mom, so even the most expensive, luxurious 5 Star restaurant comes in a far second to Mom.

But to give the fishing families credit, the food was excellent and affordable. If you're into beer, it was $5 for the Festival mug and then $1.00 refills.
